Carl Sundberg

Carl Gustave Sundberg, age 88, of Erie, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital.

He was born in Erie on June 23, 1928, a son of the late Gustave and Rose Rogers Sundberg.

Carl graduated from Academy High School and from the Albright Art School (University of Buffalo.) Carl was the Art Director at Erie Ceramics Art Co. which was purchased by American Trim. American trim included two divisions: Erie ceramics decorative products and the other exclusively electronics. Carl played a major role in both businesses but was key to the implementations of the electronics division which became Heatron and is now owned by Nibe.

As a fine artist he exhibited both in the United States and abroad. He was a founding member of the N.P.A.A. and Past President of Erie Art Museum. He was also a member of Luther Memorial Church and the Erie Maennerchor Club. Carl enjoyed sports including golf and tennis. He also sang in many choirs.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jack Sundberg and two brothers, Eugene and Paul Sundberg.

He is survived by his wife, Wilda Regelman Sundberg, a son, Craig Sundberg, a daughter, Sallee Rabenold and her husband Gregg, all of Erie, eight grandchildren, Christian Sundberg and his wife Angelle, Laurree Schloss and her husband Mike, Robynn, Stone, Griffin and Roslynn Sundberg, all of Erie, and Garrett Rabenold of Columbus, OH, Renee Rabenold and her husband Steve Gottschalk of Pittsburgh, PA and five great-grandchildren, Isaac and Eliza Sundberg, Victor, Alexander and Evelyn Schloss. Two brothers, Lee Sundberg and his wife Janice of Villa Rica, GA and Anshelm Sundberg and his wife Carolyn and a sister, Adina Morehouse and her husband Harold, of Erie also survive.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue) on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a service at Luther Memorial Church, 225 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16501 on Thursday at 10 a.m. with Reverend William Coleman officiating. Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
