James Harrington

November 21, 1933 — July 5, 2017

James F. Harrington, 83, of Erie, passed away at UPMC Hamot on Wednesday July 5, 2017 with his loving family at his side.

Born on November 21, 1933 in Erie, a son of the late Charles W. and Orletta R. (Brandt) Harrington. He was a 1953 graduate of the Millcreek School District and served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956.

James worked in sales in the distribution of dairy products beginning in 1956 with Sanida Dairy and retired more than 35 years later in November 1994 with then Upstate Dairy. He was a member of Perry Lodge No. 392 F.& A.M., where he was a past master. Jim enjoyed hunting, woodcarving, antique cars and photography. Jim and Nancy also loved Florida and spent six months each year there for the past 20 years.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by a brother, Richard; and a sister, Janet.

He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Nancy, whom he married on November 9, 1956; two sons, Fred and wife Tracy along with Roger and wife Carol; three grandsons, Tyler, Dylan (Tiffany Blair) and Mark (Shannon) Harrington; two granddaughters, Lindsay (Shawn) Crum all of Erie and Ann Little (Jeremy) of Tennessee; along with nine great grandchildren; a sister, Marlene Mraz and a brother, Charles Harrington; and several nieces and nephews also survive.  

Friends may call at Burton’s Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Rd. on Tuesday July 11th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 until the time of service at 7:00 pm at the Burton Wintergreen  All Faith’s Chapel with Pastor Gary Darnell of Harmony Baptist Church, officiating.
