John Hodgson

John Charles Hodgson, age 77, formerly of Fairview, passed away Monday, June 4, 2018 in Florida.

He was born in Punxsutawney, PA, on June 1, 1941, a son of the late Charles and Christine Campbell Hodgson.

John had worked at Parker White Metal for 38 years, retiring in 2013.  He was very active in the union and PHB Credit Union, where he held many committee positions.

He joined the Fairview Fire Department in 1970 as an active volunteer firefighter and fire police.  John held an assistant chief position and in 1983 was named Fireman of the Year.  He was also very active on the board of directors for over 9 years.

John was very funny and was always cracking jokes.  He was a proud fireman who enjoyed helping others.  One of his favorite passions in life was riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle.  He and his wife Pat loved riding together and traveling.  They were active members in the Goldwing Club Chapter G, and recognized as  “Couple of the Year” in 1998. In addition, John was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders that help shield fallen service members and first responders from harassment at burials.

He loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates; but most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

John is survived by the love of his life, Patricia Zewe Hodgson, whom he married on June 18, 1966; his children, Timothy Hodgson and his wife Angela and Kimberly Covatto and her husband, Jason.  He was a proud Papa to Tyler-Jay, Kaleigh, Bradley, Alison,Sienna and Luke.  John is further survived by his sister, Diane Glasser.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard on Saturday, June 16 from Noon until the time of the service at 3pm.
